Fifty years ago in June, the Oscar-winning musical “The Music Man” opened.
Here’s a fun casting tidbit: the role of Harold Hill was offered to Cary Grant, but he refused – insisting to Warner Bros. that the only man who could play it was Robert Preston, who originated the part on Broadway.

That awkward moment when your choir does circle of life and is told o purposely pronounce the words wrong because “no one will notice”…I was in a production that involved different hit numbers from different musicals. Our opening number was Circle of Life from Lion King, so we all learned the little chants and words. Now, whenever someone outside of the musical sings it wrong, I always cringe.
